Ambrose Trust of Autism to benefit from Mayors walk
07 Aug 2024
The first ever Gaborone City Mayor’s Walk billed for Saturday will raise funds for Ambrose Trust of Autism.
The trust, which is running Ambrose Academy in Gaborone North is said to be grappling with financial constraints.
Gaborone mayor, Mr Austin Abraham said as such the organisers of the walk had decided to commit 15 per cent of the walk proceeds to Ambrose Trust.
The Mayor said the 10-kilometre walk was in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank of Botswana.
Standard Chartered Bank of Botswana chief executive officer, Mr Mpho Masuge will be the chief walker, while corporate companies and organisations are expected to take part.
Besides Ambrose Trust of Autism, the walk was also meant to raise funds for Local Authority Health Institutions Sport Association (LAHISA) Gaborone team, which, together with other 31 districts are scheduled to travel to Namibia for the annual sporting activities.
The objective, the mayor said, was also to fight non-communicable diseases by sharing messages of awareness and conduct screening.
For his part, the Gaborone LAHISA team chairperson, Mr Clement Motsumi said 30 other districts were expected to participate in the walk in order to network and learn from each other. Individuals registration fee is P100. Ends
