The late Sebataladi Palai’s legacy continues to be remembered by those he crossed paths with, including President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

During a visit to Palai’s homestead in Mochudi following his tombstone unveiling ceremony on Saturday, President Masisi who was accompanied by First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi, said the deceased was one outstanding teacher to remember. Having met him at Gaborone Secondary School as a teacher apprentice in the early 1980s, President Masisi said Palai’s memories still lived on as he supervised him directly at the time.

“Rre Palai was intelligent, resourceful, jolly and always willing to assist,” he said.

Although time had passed since Palai’s death in 1996, aged 48, President Masisi said his remarkable career as a teacher continued to inspire many of his products because he was a gifted teacher who did not struggle to guide those he supervised.

He said Palai was also a footballer of repute and one of the founding members of the Botswana Democratic Party who contributed immensely to the party’s growth in Kgatleng.

Palai’s wife, Ms Ruth Palai said she took pride in the family heritage and six children she raised having lost her husband at a young age.

“I am inspired that these children have grown to emulate their father and they contribute to the country’s development through service in their various capacities,” Ms Palai said.

A family representative, Mr Fish Palai said they were honoured to have hosted the President, adding that his efforts to comfort bereaved families across the country were noticeable.

“We are proud of you and all the different programmes you continue to extend to Batswana,” Mr Palai said. Ends
