Pratt praises Botswana for good governance democracy

Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Dame Cynthia Alexandria Pratt has applauded Botswana for the excellent democratic dispensation which is symbolic of good governance, political stability and the rule of law.
The Governor General who is on a five-day state visit said it was commendable for Botswana to be determined to uphold the reputation of being a beacon and example of hope, stability, peace and tranquility.
Ms Pratt made the remarks during the official talks with President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi at the Office of the President yesterday.
Of particular note, she said Botswana was globally renowned as a champion of democracy, good governance and non-discrimination.
She thus expressed her sincere gratitude for the visit, her first to an African country.
Ms Pratt said The Bahamans and Botswana shared a lot of similarities, hence the need to stand united not just in shared history but in a shared mission to leverage collective skills, resources and brotherhood.
“As we move forward, we must remain committed to the spirit of collaboration and innovation to draw strength from our shared history with the knowledge that we can, together build a safe haven for our people,” she said.
She said collectively, both countries should strive to strengthen economic ties aimed at solidifying relations for the benefit of the society.
Similarly, President Masisi indicated that Botswana attached great importance to the excellent bilateral relations between the two nations.
He said Botswana and The Bahamas continued to enjoy strong bonds of friendship, solidarity and fruitful cooperation.
Dr Masisi said Botswana appreciated the strong bilateral relations it shared with Bahamas, saying such relations were deeply rooted in certain similarities between the two nations.
“These relations are borne out of the two countries close historical, political, economic, social and cultural ties as well as the commitment to common values of democracy and good governance,” he said.
The bilateral relations, he said were further nurtured by recent interactions by the two head of states which played an important role in manifesting the already flourishing relations.
President Masisi said it was fitting for the two countries to meet at different levels, to exchange notes on how best to serve their respective populace. Ends
