Church state inseparable - Gare

21 Jul 2024

Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Karabo Gare says the church and the state are inseparable.

Addressing UCCSA congregants during the official opening of the 26th denominational Soldiers of Christ conference in Moshupa on Friday, Mr Gare said the country remained committed to working with all churches, which were promoting peace and unity in the society.

He pointed out that church and state were inseparable because the state served as the body and the church the air hence one could not take the air out of the body. We therefore cannot separate the two because the body would die, he added.

Mr Gare emphasised that church was a sanctuary that fortified spirits to be courageous and kept the vision of a free society saying this correlated well with the national vision 2036 pillar 4 of Governance, Peace and Security-Religion and Society.

He further explained that the church played an enormous role in socio economic aspects of lives because some of its teachings prevented poverty and laid foundation for economic prosperity. “We want to work with all churches because the church has been the major source of social services like schooling and medical care, an inspiration for art, culture and philosophy, it has been an influential player in politics and religion,” he said.

He therefore urged the congregants to continue upholding values of justice, equality, peace, respect of human rights, prosperity and goodwill towards all people.

For his part Soldier of Christ chairman, Rev Keleneilwe Kgerethwa spoke about the virtue of humility noting that the church should always be the true reflection of humility.

Rev Kgerethwa explained that humility was the key to Christian life and helped bringing peace to the world and harmony in the church.

He emphasised that where humility was lacking there was war, discord and division.

The church, he said, needed people who demonstrated simple humility and brokenness in their lives, not talking about it but demonstrating it in real living and truthfulness. BOPA
