BDP stalwart Manyuni laid to rest

Former chairman of the Boteti West branch, Mr Bonno Manyuni, who died on July 16, has been laid to rest in Rakops. His passing has left a significant void in the community, as many gathered to pay their last respects yesterday.
Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane addressed mourners, urging the Manyuni family to place their trust in the Lord during these challenging times.
He reflected on Mr Manyuni’s substantial contributions to the foundation and developmental programmes of Rakops village, emphasising his influential role in ensuring Boteti West achieved sub-district status.
Describing Mr Manyuni as a gifted unifier, Mr Tsogwane, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Boteti West, noted the deceased’s ability to resolve numerous issues within the party and his dedication to guiding emerging politicians.
“He garnered strong support from party members and played a pivotal role in shaping new leaders,” he stated.
The late chairman’s wife, Ms Batoli Manyuni, shared with mourners that her husband had contracted flu after riding a horse to track down missing livestock on July 15.
She recounted his worsening pains that led to his untimely passing the night of July 16.
Their daughter, Ms Unami Manyuni, expressed her saddned by her father’s unexpected departure, saying they attempted treating his cold with home remedies and over-the-counter medications.
At a memorial service held in honour of Mr Manyuni on Friday Vice President Mr Tsogwane highlighted the deceased’s immense contributions to the growth and development of the party in Boteti West.
“He worked tirelessly over many years, dedicating personal resources out of a genuine passion for our community,” he said.
Mr Manyuni was known for his opposition to featuring politicians’ images on party regalia, advocating instead for the use of the party slogan to foster unity. This preference underscored his commitment to maintaining harmony within the party.
In tribute, the elder brother of the deceased, Mr Gabayo Manyuni, fondly remembered him as the youngest of seven siblings, a hardworking individual, and a reputable farmer.
He highlighted Mr Manyuni’s employment with Debswana starting in 1975 as a driver, during which he amassed considerable livestock.
One of the village elders, Mr Lamogae Motaung spoke highly of Mr Manyuni’s strong character, leadership skills, and the significant role he played in village activities and decision-making processes since their first meeting in 2004.
While councillor Bapaletswe Kgagamedi echoed these sentiments, recalling Mr Manyuni’s wise leadership as branch chairperson, especially in guiding the youth towards positive involvement in the community.
Branch chairperson Mr Johannes Sephiri expressed gratitude for Mr Manyuni’s impact on the party and lamented the loss of such a key figure, stating that ‘there is no one who can fill his shoes.’
Mr Manyuni, born in April 1951, is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters. Ends
