Residents call for demolition of standpipes

Bonwapitse residents have called for the demolition of all standpipes in their village.
In a kgotla meeting addressed by Shoshong Member of Parliament, Mr Aubrey Lesaso on Wednesday, residents expressed concern that the standpipes were used for criminal activities.
Further, the residents said the standpipes were no longer in use and should therefore be destroyed to frustrate criminal activities.
On other matters, residents were said that land allocations there was need to expedited land allocations as well as fastracking the change of ownership process.
Additionally, residents complained of poor turnaround times at landboard especially responding to issues.
They also called for the construction of staff houses and additional classrooms at Bonwapitse Primary School, adding that the existing offices were infested with bats.
For his part, Mahalapye’s Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe shared with VDC the processes to follow whenever the wanted to request a for a vehicle.
He also pleaded with the residents to be patient as funds had been allocated to maintain the Village Development Committee offices.
Responding to concerns, Mahalapye Water Utilities Corporation general manager, Moitseemang Monthe informed resident that his company was aware of the standpipes that are no longer in use saying the would be destroyed in due course.
He said WUC ambitions was to connect water to new plots, saying they had included the plan in the drafting of the Botswana National Development Plan 12. Ends
