Donating school uniform is a powerful initiative aimed at ensuring every child has access to quality education. Mmopane/Lentsweletau Member of Parliament, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja, said this on Thursday as she received school uniform on behalf of Letsholo Primary School at Kopong.
The uniform was donated by the World Group of Companies. Each pupil received a pair of trouser, shoes, socks, a shirt, vest and a plastic full of lollipops.
Ms Makwinja, who is also the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, said the donation came at an appropriate time of winter.
She said the intention was to bridge the gap between the poor and opulent, adding that the donation would also ensure that children enjoyed a habitable learning environment.
“We don’t want kids to bunk school or drop out of school because they are verbally abused by their peers on the basis of their appearance at school,” she said.
She thanked the World Group of Companies for the noble gesture, which was also extended to various schools around the country.
Kweneng Region Acting Director, Mr Myson Mbuso, appealed to parents to take good care of the uniforms as it would motivate pupils to learn.
“Together we can empower young minds and create equal opportunities for all,” emphasised Mr Mbuso.
He said in the past five academic years, the school posited good results.
In 2019 the school attained 88.4 per cent ABC pass, 82 per cent in 2020, a sign of hard work and teamwork by Letsholo Primary School administrators.
He also acknowledged the area MP for her efforts of engaging the World Group of Companies.
Mr Mbuso said the donation was the beginning of great things ahead.
When giving vote of thanks, Kgosi Michael Molefe, expressed gratitude to the World Group Companies for their generosity and support.
“Donating school uniform will pave a way for a more inclusive and equal education system, where every child can thrive and reach full potential,” said Kgosi Molefe.
He also said the day would be memorable for Letsholo Primary School pupils as it remind them that they too were special and deserved to be adored. ENDS
