Two people lost their lives on Friday along A1 road at Lechana, 15 kilometres from Palapye, following a fuel tanker and horse and trailer trucks head-on collision. Speaking in an interview on Saturday, acting Palapye Police Station commander, Assistant superintendent Goletwa Kethamile said they rushed to the accident scene immediately after receiving a call on Friday at around 9am and found that a fuel tanker and horse and trailer trucks had collided. The fuel tanker was north bound while a horse and trailer was south bound. Furthermore, he said three people were involved in the accident; the driver of a fuel tanker who sustained serious injuries and was recuperating at the hospital while the driver of a horse and trailer, and a passenger were certified dead upon arrival at Palapye Primary Hospital. He said the driver of the horse and trailer truck and his passenger who was a woman were trapped inside the truck. Supt Kethamile said investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing, pointing that if investigations were to reveal that the survivor caused the accident, he would be charged for causing death while driving, which attracts an incarceration if found guilty. He implored drivers to exercise caution at all times to avert accidents, as well as to rest to reduce fatigue as it was risky to drive when tired. EndsSource : BOPA
