It's do or die for Zebras

01 Jul 2024

It is now-or-never for the senior national football team, the Zebras in their today’s match against Mozambique in the ongoing HOLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup held in South Africa.

Against Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Saturday, the Zebras played well and created few scoring opportunities, which they however failed to convert.

In an interview, the Zebras head coach, Didier Da Rosa said today’s match would require his side to be more clinical in front of the goal posts and also win against Mozambique in order to proceed to the next round of the competition.

Da Rosa said it was his responsibility to ensure that the Zebras made it to the next of the competition and therefore would approach the game with effective attacking transitions.

Therefore, he said players would have to be mobile and quick and open up vertical passing lines and push forward to ultimately score against Mozambique.

“Surely our attacking approach means we will be a little unbalanced in our defence.

But at the end of the day we have to take that risk and try to score. In our two games, we did not concede any goals and that alone means players are very committed and disciplined,” he said.

He added said he was apperceive in how to play against Mozambique and therefore hopeful that the players would understand his philosophy and follow instructions.

Da Rosa further said he would continue to give all the players a chance given that one of the Botswana Football Association (BFA)’s key objectives was to develop young players in efforts to build the future of Botswana football.

Conversely, he said he was happy with the players’ performance given that they learn with every game.

The Zebras are in Group A together with Mozambique, eSwatini and the hosts, South Africa and the group is currently open given that each of the four teams have two points.

South Africa are leading the group, Mozambique are second followed by Zebras and eSwatini are at the bottom of the table.

eSwatini also play against South Africa today. ENDS
