The  Ministry of Local  Government and Rural  Development has no plans to  upgrade  headman of  arbitration,  Assistant  Minister, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele has said.

Responding to a question during the Ntlo ya Dikgosi meeting recently, Mr Modukanele said their positions was at the kgotla in their respective villages or wards and the succession plan was as per the customs and norms of the village in the customary manner.

“Therefore the ministry cannot plan for the promotion of headman of arbitration nor their succession,” he said.

Specially elected Kgosi Oatleng Setlhodi had asked the minister if he had any plans to set out a clear progression and succession plan for headman of arbitration on permanent and pensionable under the Bogosi structure.

Responding to another question, Mr Modukanele said the ministry was aware of the two approved appointments of headman of arbitration in Ngwaketse West region at Molale Ward in Mmakgori  and Moletsane Ward in Mabutsane, which were sent to the district on April 24.

Kgosi James Khumanego of Ngwaketse West had asked the minister to update Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on the number of pending appointments for headman of arbitration in the Ngwaketse West region. ENDS
