Letsholathebe applauds teachers for social responsibility

Teachers in Southern Region have been applauded for their contribution in the country’s pursuit of an inclusive and equitable quality education.
Speaking during a tour of a new special education block worth P1.7 million at Good Hope Primary School, the Minister of Education and Skill Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe said the building showed an act of goodwill under the spirit of giving back to the community.
The block comprises of two classrooms, an office space and a storeroom
“This is a shining example of what can be achieved when teachers go above and beyond their call of duty, driven by a genuine commitment to inclusivity and excellence in education,” he said.
Dr Letsholathebe said the building was a symbol of hope as it would change the lives of many upon completion.
He said the project stood out as a testament to the unwavering commitment of teachers to ensuring that every child received quality education regardless of their abilities.
Dr Letsholathebe said Botswana’s commitment to upholding rights and dignity of people with disabilities was enshrined in numerous policies such as the policy on care of people with disabilities and the inclusive education policy.
He said this was to ensure that all learners including those with special needs had access to education within mainstream schools and offer them necessary support for them to live independently as well as to fully participate in society.
Dr Letsholathebe encouraged teachers to continuously strive for excellence in inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
Earlier on when giving the project overview, director of education -Southern region, Mr Acronews Maseko said they decided on a special education block because the district did not have one.
He said the block would have a vocational training wing to equip pupils with survival skills.
Dr Letsholathebe also went on an appreciation tour of two satellite schools in Marojane and Molete and also CITF site in Phitshane Molopo. Ends
