Sport promotes peace unity

Sport can be used as a social fabric tool that promotes peace and unity in societies.
Speaking in a post-match interview between Serowe and Tswapong regions select teams that kickstarted the Sir Seretse Khama celebrations in Serowe on Friday, head coach for Serowe region, Thobo Mogale said sport could provide useful ways of creating an environment whereby people could come together and work toward a common goal.
He said sport contributed to peace and bringing different ethnic groups together, which promoted diversity and inclusivity as well as strengthening dialogue between nations and communities in a sustainable way.
For his part, Tswapong region head coach, Adonai Banyatsang shared the same sentiments with Mogale that sport promoted peace and unity as the country celebrated the life of Sir Seretse Khama in unison through sport.
He said the fact that teams comprised players from various teams in Tswapong region promoted unity thus bringing people of different backgrounds and ethnicity together to celebrate in unison.
Therefore, he said sport was an appropriate way of celebrating Sir Seretse Khama legacy as he founded a government that loved peace, tranquility and harmony.
Meanwhile, Serowe region select won 4-1 on penalties. At recess teams were locked 1-1 while at full time 2-2 and penalty shoot-out had to break the impasse. Serowe select team goals were scored by Seele Nthomi the 13th minute and Kepaletswe Keipidits in the 57th minute, while Tswapong select’s Mphoentle Keosekile fired a salvo that resulted into a goal in the 28th minute following a penalty spot while the second goal came through Tarazo Modimootsile in the 53rd minute. ends
