Boteti District chairperson urges perseverance against challenges

Boteti District, though faced with limited resources, has to execute council business and deliver timely service to Batswana.
The council chairperson Mr Molemi Galeragwe told councillors during a session in Letlhakane on Monday that the district was obliged to partake in government intentions irrespective of challenges encountered.
He through the Reset Agenda, intention of government was to have an effective working infrastructure and systems with competitive skilled citizens.
The district, he said, was growing as evidenced by the number of public officers in the district, and hoped such would go a long way in enhancing provision of services to local communities.
He pleaded with other ministries, service providers, parastatals, non-governmental and government organisations to continue decentralising services to the district. He said Boteti benefitted meaningfully through partnership with sponsors like Debswana Mining Company, Lucara Botswana and Dream Choice on execution of impactful projects.
Mr Galeragwe said into 2024, Debswana donated a kilometre paving of internal road at Rakops at a cost of P4 million to facilitate accessibility and improve infrastructure development.
Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines through Safety and Sustainable Development department made a donation of eight solar streetlights worth P140 000 at Moremaoto.
He said Debswana would also construct a two-classroom block at Mmeya at a cost of P2.6 milion to alleviate shortage of classrooms.
Mr Galeragwe stated that another upcoming project by Debswana was refurbishment of theatre wing at Rakops Primary Hospital at total cost of P4.2 million to improve clinical outcomes of emergencies in Boteti.
Further Lucara Botswana, he said, would construct a block of three classrooms at Makgaba during 2024 with implementation expected to commence next month.
Mr Galeragwe said the project would reduce distance travelled by children as well as promote education and skills development as per vision 2036 pillar two of human and social development.
In addition Lucara Botswana through the Corporate Social Investment donated Information and Technology equipment to 34 schools in Boteti region. The donated items included 34 printers and 68 computers.
Abaricom pledged to connect Internet in schools, he said, adding that there was a Memorandum of Agreement between the education ministry, Boteti District Council, Lucara and Abaricom. The partnership covers maintenance of computers and printers. He said Dream Choice donated construction one block of two classrooms at Retlhatloleng Primary School in Letlhakane. ENDS
