Illicit drug trafficking reverses socio-economic gains

Minister of Justice, Mr Machana Shamukuni, Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Thomas Mmusi, First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi and UNAIDS Country director, Mr Alalar Malviya joined Kasane residents to observe World Drug Day on June 26.
Mr Mmusi said illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances reversed the socio-economic gains of the country including contributing to increase in other crimes.
He also said drug damage was disruptive to human capital and burdened the health sector.
Observance of the day commonly referred to as World Anti-Drug Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987 to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a society free of drug abuse.
