Chobe Game Lodge Donates 300 Mattresses to Local Schools
Mr Johan Bruwer, the General Manager of the lodge, expressed that the mattresses would be allocated to the schools’ hostels based on their specific needs. He highlighted that the decision to purchase these mattresses was driven by the recognition of challenges such as insufficient infrastructure in secondary schools, which hampered the conducive learning environment.
Mr Bruwer mentioned the lodge’s ongoing commitment to local economic development through infrastructure initiatives, including proposals for constructing assembly areas for Chobe JSS and Kavimba Primary School.
“Investing in education is ultimately an investment in ourselves because we have parents working in our lodges whose children attend schools in Chobe District,” stated Mr Bruwer. He underscored the significance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to address crucial issues in the education system, aiming to create a conducive environment for learners to excel and build a promising future.
He said the tourism industry was a work intensive industry which depended on people to offer a service hence noted that their goal was to have a thriving young employee base which could be achieved through basic education.
The acting director-Chobe regional operations, Ms Tetlanyo Chipendo said generosity should be encouraged hence thanked Chobe Game Lodge for investing in education.
She said lack of proper bedding had been an outcry in the boarding schools which resulted in learners stressing about lack of comfort.
She said access to basic education played a key role in economic transformation to drive Botswana to a high income status adding that an investment towards education went a long way in making a great impact in one’s future.
Chobe District Council Chairperson, Mr Chimney Mululwani thanked the lodge for the mattress donation.
He reiterated that the mattresses would improve mental state of children.
Mr Mululwani pointed out that Chobe Game Lodge contributed to Chobe District tourism value chain by taking their guests on village tours for eco-tourism activities where they exchanged culture and purchased crafts from locals.
He implored Parents Teachers Associations to raise awareness on the importance of taking care of these mattresses and other school materials for durability. ENDS
