Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane has commended members of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi for their contribution in the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Speaking at a farewell dinner for members of the 4th Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on Saturday Mr Tsogwane said their contribution would go down in the annals of history.

He said they should pride themselves for having done a great job even for future generations of traditional leaders.

Dikgosi were given 30 days to present their submissions to the Bill whose object was to amend the Constitution following government’s approval of some recommendations of Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Review of the Constitution of Botswana.

Mr Tsogwane said when the Bill was taken to Ntlo Ya Dikgosi for the traditional leaders to make their input before it went for second reading they did so with great gusto and diligence.

He said government recognised the importance of bogosi in governance and even included chairperson of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi Kgosi Puso Gaborone as one of the commissioners in the Presidential Commission of Inquiry.

Mr Tsogwane said he had a long standing relationship with magosi and was impressed by the overall development of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi over the years.

He appealed to dikgosi to nurture the already fruitful partnership between them and government and to respond to any future challenges for the creation of a beautiful legacy.

Chairperson of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi Kgosi Puso urged other stakeholders to establish partnerships with Ntlo Ya Dikgosi so that their contribution to the socio-economic development of Botswana was visible.

He said the members interacted with many stakeholders in the past seating and also visited many institutions and facilities to appreciate their operations.

He said Ntlo Ya Dikgosi appreciated support from stakeholders which empowered members and gave them some sense of entitlement as critical partners in development. ENDS
