Chobe District Council has commissioned a storm water drainage in Plateau and paved Lesoma internal roads built under the 2023/24 Community Constituency Projects (CCP).
The storm water drainage was awarded to SGR Consulting while the internal roads were awarded to seven artisans in Lesoma at P5 million under the supervision of council.
Accepting the projects on Friday, the MP for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni said P50 million had been allocated for implementation of CCP in Chobe District since inception.
He noted the water reticulation network in Mabele, Kavimba and Parakarungu, the buying of photocopiers at junior secondary schools, extension of electricity connections, the installation of solar flood lights at Lesoma, upgrading of the kgotla shelter in Kavimba and the development of a graveyard in Kasane.
Mr Shamukuni said in 2023/2024 they focused on the road infrastructure to facilitate the ease of doing business by creating access to key facilities.
He said the new storm water drainage system has eradicated flooding in Plateau during the rainy season and that the paved Lesoma roads would facilitate public transport operator to operate throughout pick the village without hindrances of poor roads.
SGR Consulting managing director, Mr Ronnie Shimane said they employed 17 people on the 800 metres storm water drainage system and culverts.
He said sand and gravel, which they sourced from Francistown, caused some minor delays.
For his part, Chobe District Council chairperson, Mr Chimney Mululwani expressed joy over the completion of the projects.
He said the public used to complain about their homes being submerged under water while public transport operators used to drop commuters far away from their homes due to lack of proper roads.
He commended the contractors for completing the projects on time and as per contract terms and obligations. ends
