Member of Parliament for Tonota, Mr Pono Moatlhodi has commended heads of departments in his constituency for serving the public wholeheartedly since 2019.
Mr Moatlhodi expressed his gratitude during a briefing in Tonota recently.
He advised the heads of departments to act swiftly on issues concerning the welfare of constituents.
Giving a report on council activities, Tonota District Council economic planner, Mr Mokalake Moengwe noted that the Independent Electoral Commission had concluded the second supplementary voter’s registration, and that they were preparing payments for those who were engaged in the process.
He said they had been given P5. 2 million to construct a satellite fire station in Tonota, adding that fencing would commence next month and that quotations for power and water had been sourced.
He also said Tonota had been enrolled in a pilot foster care programme.
Mr Moengwe said it was an alternative form of care for children who were vulnerable and in need of protection and safety, adding that it was essentially to provide a family life for children.
He said they were looking for foster parents and urged all stakeholders and community leaders to create awareness about the programme.
Mr Moatlhodi said shortage of staff accommodation in his constituency was a challenge and that some teachers still shared accommodation.
However, he said Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) would build 294 houses for civil servants and that they have completed building six 18-unit flats in Tonota East. ends
