In an effort to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in Botswana, Gambling Authority has announced the launch of SMS Competitions, Games, and Quizzes across Digital, Virtual, and Interactive platforms.

The authority therefore invites individuals and companies to apply for SMS Competitions licenses.

The authority's  Chief Operating Officer, Ms Mopati Rammekwa told BOPA Thursday that  the initiative was set to transform the country's entertainment industry and drive significant economic growth.

She expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential to cultivate innovation.

“This is an opportunity for Batswana to engage with cutting-edge digital platforms, fostering creativity and entrepreneurial spirit,” Ms Rammekwa stated.

She said the move was part of Botswana's Vision 2036 goal of  evolving into a knowledge-based, high-income economy, adding that by embracing modern gaming technologies, they were not only diversifying the entertainment sector, but also laying the groundwork for substantial economic development.

Ms Rammekwa said the application process was open to all citizens and called on all Batswana to seize this chance to be part of digital transformation, citing that the potential for job creation and technological advancement was vast.

Ms Rammekwa said the initiative promised numerous benefits, including economic diversification, job creation, and the promotion of innovation and technology, adding that it was about more than just entertainment, but about shifting mindsets and embracing the digital future.
