Undeveloped plots affect village aesthetics
12 Jun 2024
The Good Hope District Council (GDC) Chairperson, Mr Fankie Motsaathebe has expressed concern over undeveloped plots in his district.
Mr Motsaathebe who was officially opening council session on Tuesday, said undeveloped plots negatively affected village aesthetics and criminals used them as a hiding place.
He, therefore, encouraged residents to develop their plots on time or voluntarily return them to the land board.
He was also worried about applicants who did not turn up for application interviews.
He discouraged Batswana not to make multiple applications with different land boards, saying it disadvantaged other citizens as they created unnecessary long waiting lists.
Mr Motsaathebe said the Rolong land board had been working around the clock to meet their target of allocating plots by 150 per cent.
He divulged that there were three main projects in the district thus far under the Output and Performance based Road Contract (OPRC) being Good Hope via Kgoro-Gathwane road and associated access roads which had been awarded to Steelbase at over P456 million with the expected completion date of October 18, 2026.
“Lot two includes design and construction of Rakhuna-Sheepfarm and associated access roads which has been awarded to Tau grading at the value of over P653 million and is expected to be completed by April 7, 2027.”
Furthermore, he said tender for construction of consultant’s office and houses at Good Hope who will be monitoring the project was awarded to LG engineering at over P12 million and expected to be completed on December 2024.
Mr Motsaathebe stressed the significance of provision of infrastructure in the economic growth of the district, saying there was no doubt that it did not only improve the landscape but livelihoods of the community as well. ENDS
