Member of Parliament for Mogoditshane Tumiso Rakgare has pledged his continual support to Mogoditshane Senior School traditional dance group.
Speaking at a ceremony held to appreciate the group at the school’s premises on Tuesday, he encouraged them to continue with their dreams saying there was life in the creative industry.
The MP, who is also the Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture said he was impressed by the group’s performance during the handover of a gym in the constituency recently and promised them his support.
Rakgare said they displayed a brilliant performance characterised by good choreography and rhythm.
He encouraged the group to pursue their dreams saying one can make a living in the creative industry, adding however that it was important they take their academic studies seriously.
He said youth ministry established the National Arts Council after realising the importance of the creative industry, adding it was contributing 5.76 per cent to the economy, higher than other sectors.
The MP said his ministry had over the years offered opportunities to various artistes to perform at international events and said the traditional dance group must also aim for unlimited opportunities. “If we get it right, we will create more jobs for our youths,” he said.
Rakgare said it was unfortunate that some people who were responsible for helping youths, were not offering service at expected levels, and warned that such acts might kill their dreams.
He said youths needed resources and should be assisted for them to realise their dreams.
“Let us give them necessary support to enable them to grow,” he said. Earlier in his welcome remarks, the school head Mr Mpaphi Kuswani said he was happy with the assistance his school has received from various sectors. Ends
