Shashe River School ups the game

In an effort to go back to its glory days of academic performance, Shashe River School in Tonota had raised P130 000.
The money, which was raised through a 10km sponsored walk, will be used for celebrating excellence and fueling the school’s academic ambitions.
Shashe River School Alumini umbrella executive committee in collaboration with CCP Botswana, a consulting engineers firm, raised P40 000, Joseph Peloetletse family in Tonota contributed P50 000 whilst Shashe school community raised P40 000.
Speaking after the walk on Friday, chief walker and alumni, Mr Kobamelo Kgoboko said the school wanted to reclaim it’s legacy as a school of excellence.
Mr Kgoboko, who is the managing director of CCP Botswana said Shashe had a remarkable record of excellence from and there was no doubt that the school could reclaim this legacy.
In addition, he said the school was also known for its innovation and its outstanding extracurricular programmes as well as its nurturing environment.
Mr Kgoboko, however, said like any other school, Shashe had its fair share of challenges.
“The world is changing rapidly, and with it, the education landscape too.
We have seen budget cuts, technological advancements that require adaptation to meet the demands of the 21st century, yet those challenges were not impossible to overcome.
They are opportunities for growth and innovation,” he said.
He proclaimed that the school had already started on its journey to reclaim its glory days.
“Attaining position eight in BGSCE nationally, and position two regionally in 2022, as well as attaining position six nationally and position one regionally in 2023, is attributed to noteworthy academic support initiatives,” he added.
Robust monitoring system and comprehensive tutoring programmes, providing students with personalised assistance in areas their areas of need are some of the initiatives the school has undertaken.
He also appreciated the support by the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) saying it was a welcome development for the school to achieve its goal.
Mr Kgoboko said the present circumstances call for a renewed commitment from all stakeholders.
“We must support our educators with the resources they need to foster a dynamic learning environment and encourage our students to strive for excellence,” said the managing director.
The chairperson of Shashe River School Alumini umbrella executive committee, Mr Sherman Selepe said the formation of the committee was necessitated to provide a conducive learning environment in order to improve results.
“We also want to produce responsible and future leaders in all sectors of the economy; be it politicians, religious leaders, and academics,” noted Mr Selepe.
He said such was a clarion call for all stakeholders to resource the school to boost its academic performance.
Moreover, he called on the school not to deviate from the original route, adding that having three pupils among the top achievers in 2023 was a testament that the school could attain position one in this year’s BGCSE results.
In his welcome remarks, the school head, Mr Mpaladzi Majingo called on parents to play their ole in the education of the children.
He said the theme for the walk was; Taking Shashe River School Back to it’s Glory Days: A call for Stakeholders Participation, was a clarion call for change and revitalisation.
Mr Majingo also said the message behind the theme wass simple, yet powerful.
He complained that the school, which was once a symbol of academic excellence and community pride, had fallen from its former glory, adding that it would take concerted efforts from all stakeholders to restore it t.
Deputy school head, Mr George Showa said the aim was to see Shashe in the top three bracket in the near future, adding that such could be achieved if all stakeholder partook in supporting the school’s efforts ENDS
