BNOC on track for Olympic Games

06 Jun 2024

Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) is preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to be staged from July 26 to August 11.

BNOC acting chief executive officer, Tebogo Kesupile said they long started their preparations and that they were satisfactory, though not as good they had wished.

She noted that only one code, athletics, had qualified.

Kesupile, however, said they were still pinning their hopes on beach volleyball and swimming to qualify, noting that local boxers had failed to qualify.  During the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan, the country was represented in four codes of athletics, boxing, swimming and weightlifting.

She also noted that no woman had qualified to date.

She thanked government, Orange Botswana, Okavango Diamond Company and Diadora for partnering with them to provide team Botswana with apparel for the games.

She noted that the Italian footwear and sportswear manufacturing company also gave them cash, clothes, bags and shoes for all athletes in camp. However, she said athletes would be free to wear their sponsors regalia, noting that Botswana Athletics Association was  using Puma.

She, however, said all local athletes would wear Diadora when ascending the podium to receive their medals. ENDS
