The outdoor gym movement which includes training through the use of tyres is steadily, but significantly growing through the likes of Fearless Fitness Club, which opened its Francistown branch recently.
Officially opening the club’s branch at Sunshine plaza, the city mayor, Godisang Radisigo said the opening of the new branch was a culmination of vision, detailed planning and a lot of hard work.
He also congratulated the club for its efforts in making such a facility available for the people of Francistown.
“I know that you have worked very hard through mobilising the public and other means to make today a reality,” said Radisigo.
Radisigo promised, on behalf of Francistown leadership, to encourage people to register and train with Fearless Fitness Club.
He noted that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) were on the rise in Botswana, adding that unhealthy diet and inadequate physical activity were key factors leading to the increase of such diseases. He noted that Fearless Fitness Club endeavoured to counter key contributors of NCDs by providing physical training and promoting healthy eating.
He reminded the club’s owners of their promise to create job opportunities, particularly for the youth, eight of which would be permanent while 35 would be temporary employment opportunities.
Radisigo further added that Fearless Fitness Club’s model of operation, particularly during activations created a huge value chain as they included services such as stage supply, refreshments and aerobics instructors, among others.
He said such demonstrated the value the club brought to the city.
For his part, Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Wynter Mmolotsi said each year a large chunk of the national budget went to the Ministry of Health, which showed that poor health was a problem in the country.
He said therefore the establishment of clubs such as Fearless Fitness would go a long way in helping reduce the use of medication, replacing it with physical training.
Mmolotsi said a fit body could easily fight diseases.
He also noted that training also kept the mind fit and engaged, therefore it could help fight depression and also keep young people busy, away from criminal behaviours.
Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, Francistown branch manager, Keitumetse Nkala urged those training along the road to refrain from using headphones as they could distract them from hearing car sounds.
He also complained that drivers seldom paid attention to pedestrians, especially those crossing roads at ungazzetted points.
Nkala also advised runners to wear reflectors at all times so that they could be visible to drivers even at night.
Tawana Meshack, a 20km runner, said fitness was important to keep the body activated and ready to fight diseases at any time.
He also praised such fitness clubs as Fearless Fitness Club, saying they were important in keeping youth away from drugs and substance abuse and also moulded people’s behaviours to become responsible citizens through coaching.
Fearless fitness club has other branches in Gaborone and Palapye. ENDS
