04 Jun 2024

The countdown for the inaugural Sir Seretse Khama Commemoration Marathon has started following months of activations since the launch of the mega event in February.

Activations were held across the country, paving way for the marathon that is billed for Serowe on June 29 in honour of Botswana’s founding president Sir Seretse Khama.

With anticipation building up, Marathon coordinator, Botshelo Nthaga encouraged the nation to register for the upcoming event that would see participants united in celebrating the legacy of the first President and his birthday on July 1.

He was speaking during the 5 and 10 kilometres walk held in Serowe over the weekend in preparation for the upcoming event.

Nthaga said besides the marathon, a number of activities have been lined up.

The first day of the festivities will start with a national public lecture by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi while marathon will be held on the second day, he said.

Participants can choose from three categories of the marathon being 5, 10 and 21 kilometres with registration fee of P200, P250 and P350 respectively.

GaMmangwato regent, Kgosi Serogola Seretse said the marathon also encouraged healthy lifestyles to combat non-communicable diseases.

He said healthy lifestyle enhanced social wellbeing at all levels which was key to productivity.
