The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) chairperson, Marumo Morule, said the fact that he was given the second opportunity to lead the organisation means they must hit the ground running and implement things that were lagging behind. 

In an exclusive interview, he said one of the burning issues was leadership across the board, including the National Sport Associations. 

“The first four years we were learning the environment, and decision making in itself is an art, some decisions you will take and a few minutes to make and some others if you don’t know how, it can take several weeks, and by the time you make that decision, it doesn’t matter anymore,” he said. 

Morule said the most important thing for the sport leadership was to have one vision of playing sport across the country. 

“Letsile Tebogo won two awards from Region V. This is a result of hard work of what happened before we even went into the board the last four years, it is work that was put in many years ago, but to be able to continue it, we must play sport at a very young age,” he said. 

Furthermore, Morule said top of the agenda for his board would be to find means of how they were going to continue to play sport. 

He said it is almost five years without school sport, adding that playing sport at school must be a right that is cherished.

 “We should not deprive our children the right of playing sport, so that we can continue to have and receive all this accolades and continue to have other Letsile’s and Bayapo Ndoris,” he said. 

Most importantly, he said there was a need to put in place processes that would assist them in their quest to take sport to another level. 

“So to say we are privileged and honoured to have been given this opportunity to continue, it is also to continue building a platform and to build on the foundation that has been there, and to strengthen it, if possible, perhaps then start putting a few extra bricks on the building block,” he said.
