Batswana ready for Family Feud

02 Jun 2024

Wednesday June 5 is the deadline for entries to participate in the Family Feud Botswana and Batswana are gearing up for the TV show with utmost interest.

“I know about this show and I follow it, both the American and South African one. So, when I heard it is coming to Botswana I knew instantly that my family has to be a part of this,” said Refilwe Kereng in an interview during the Family Feud activation event at Gaborone’s Airport Junction on Saturday.

The Kereng family from Manyana is one of those that are preparing for the television game show, and they are excited about it.

Refilwe and her husband Otsetswe, who have long submitted their family of five for entry, expressed confidence that they would be selected with the hope of winning the cash prize.

“Steve asks about general things, and we are now going to learn more about Botswana and the culture and just how people think from the questions asked,” Refilwe said, adding that the show was sheer fun.

For Keebone Mphodi from Modipane who has not yet submitted a video clip to register, said before Wednesday, she would have gathered her family members and submitted the name. “I love this show, it is funny and I always watch it,” she said.

Her daughter Neo was also enthusiastic about the show and said she would love to meet Steve Harvey ‘because I am his biggest fan’.

The Family Feud Botswana team has been conducting a nation-wide activation in efforts to get Batswana enter in large numbers and also ignite interest to the much anticipated game shown on Botswana screens.

“Batswana have been waiting for this, everywhere we have been we find them waiting,’ said coordinator of the team, Junior Mosimanegape.

He said they realised as they went around the country that Batswana knew about the show and that it was coming to Botswana.

Mosimanegape said they had good numbers in Francistown and Maun, adding that Gaborone had the largest numbers.

“However, the main hurdle had been getting a team of five for Batswana to apply and it takes longer as some of the members stay apart,” he said.

However, he said they got them to shoot videos individually and merge them, which he said has helped some families who had trouble with video clip submissions.

Shooting is scheduled to commence in September in South Africa. ENDs
