01 Jun 2024
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale has told Seronga and Kauxwi residents that construction of Mohembo-Gudigwa road will start soon.
Addressing meeting at the two villages on Friday, Mr Molale told residents that a budget had been approved for the Mohembo-Gudigwa road, among those to be constructed this year.
He said the road would be constructed through the Development Manager (DM) model and had been awarded to Mr Jubilee Mokgosi of BIGEN Africa Services.
He added that preliminary stages which included assessment of the project were ongoing, while the road would be done in stages of design and build.
Mr Molale also told residents that other roads to be constructed this year included Mmathethe-Bray-Werda, Letlhakeng-Kaudwane, Otse-Dibete and Hatsalatladi-Botlhapatlou-Diphuduhudu. He said government aimed to empower local companies and therefore appealed to those that would be awarded to deliver timely and quality projects instead of misappropriation of funds.
For his part, Mr Mokgosi promised to deliver the project as instructed by government and assured to keep consulting the community. In a vote of thanks, Member of Parliament for Okavango, Mr Kenny Kapinga thanked the government for fulfilling the promise given that residents had long been complaining about the bad state of the gravel roads.
Mr Kapinga said their expectation was for the project to be delivered on time and benefit some of the local communities through employment and improvement of the economy. He further appreciated the ongoing projects in the district such as the Gumare-Mohembo road which was awarded to two companies.
Mr Kapinga said the projects would bring desirable developments to the Okavango district once complete. Ends
