The annual Cresta Rileys Hotel Ngamiland Food Festival does not only celebrate the vibrant and rich culture and tradition of the region, it also contributes to the business sector.

Every year after harvesting exercise, the hotel organises the event commonly known as Letlhafula Day with an aim to empower local farmers, by procuring their produce.

This also benefits the business community which in turn grows the local economy, stated Rileys guest relations officer, Motlatsi Molaletsi in an interview.

He appreciated that this year’s event was better compared to inaugural years, created multiple economic avenues for local entrepreneurs and a worthy experience for patrons.

The festival which seeks to promote the diverse and unique culture and heritage of the Ngamiland region was held Saturday at Rileys hotel and it attracted masses who came clad in traditional outfits.

Molaletsi said the event had more sponsors and the district leadership as well as other stakeholders supported it because of its importance in promoting culture and empowering locals.

She thanked farmers and some entrepreneurs for their contribution.

“We held a successful event this year which attracted multitudes of spectators from all walks of life and we are pleased that the festival also provided an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to display and market their products and services,” he added.

This year’s event featured a line up of artists in the likes of the afro jazz legend, Monaga Molefi commonly known as Stigger Sola in the music circles, Thabang Garogwe, Nature BW, Khoisan and Matsaieng Traditional Dance Group among others who treated the patrons to a memorable night.

Molaletsi said the festival had potential to promote cultural tourism in the region and make Maun a competitive tourist destination as it not only attracted local audience but the international community as well.

Rileys general manager, Gregery Scoutter said the event had grown in terms of attendees and sponsors.

“This festival was indeed a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition in Ngamiland,” he said. “It is not just about having fun, feasting and dancing, it is also about showing culture as an important component of the tourism product.” Ends
