Kemorena Tisang has won the 110 and 400-metre hurdle races at the Debswana BAA National Championship in Gaborone over the weekend.

He clinched the 110m gold medal with a time of 13.90, while in the 400m race he dropped a National Record of 48.76 followed by his training partner, Victor Ntweng with 49.00.

Tisang said in an interview that he was content with his achievements although he did not punch an Olympic qualifying time. However, he managed to clock a National Record time, which had been under Ntweng’s belt.

Tisang said he wanted to qualify for Olympics on home soil, adding, however, that all was not lost as he had other races lined up for him before the qualification closing date.

Furthermore, he said hurdles were not a common event in Botswana, hence the significance of going all out to attain a maiden appearance at the Olympics.  

He said the other objective was to inspire upcoming athletes to consider competing in hurdles.

Meanwhile, in the 400m men final, Collen Kebinatshipi came tops with 45.18 while Boitumelo Masilo won a silver medal with a time of 45.50 and Omphile Seribe settled for a bronze medal with 45.75.

In the 400m women category, Lydia Jele claimed a gold medal with 52.12, followed by Galefele Moroko with 53.13 while Obakeng Kameberuka won bronze with 53.61.

The 400m men Paralympic category was won by Lame Monati with 52.70, followed by Tumo Masejane with 53.00, while Loago Macheng won bronze with 54.75.

South African based Oratile Nowe is the 800m women champion after stopping the clock in  2:07.49, followed by Namibian Tuulike Angala with 2:16.40 and Goitseone Seleka with 2:23.68.

In the field events, Aabobe Tshwanelo is the high jump champion with 2.15m, followed by Taolo Lesole with 2.03m, while Jabulani Mokgethi came third with 2.01m.

Tonic Taukobong won the discus with38.91m followed by Bahiti Bahiti and Atang Maseki with 37.26m and 29.71m respectively. ENDS
