Artistes book themselves space for nationals

Outstanding artistes from Maun, Okavango and Chobe have booked themselves tickets to the National Arts Festival competitions in Backtrack, DJ, upcoming and live band categories.

The artistes emerged victorious at the regional competitions that were held at Gumare on Saturday.

A group from Etsha 6, calling itself African Boy, won the Backtrack category out of 12 groups that contested.

The group representative, Jimmy Mohumanegi said it was their first time to proceed to the finals and vowed  that they would practice more to win the coveted title.

A group from Gumare, Dancers Armour, won the upcoming artiste’s category out of five groups.

Gumar-based Sedilame Motswake, who trades by the name DJ Professor, emerged victorious in the DJ category out of 12 contestants.

Another group from Maun, Snex and Wonders Musica, won the live band category out of two groups.

The group representative, Keopakile Bakhai said they would work on their song message and sound.

The chief judge for the DJ and Backtrack categories, Oteng Fulata said they looked at production, originality, arrangement of composition, melodic line, clarity, technical skill and stage presence while for DJs they considered beat matching, creativity, crowd control and charisma.

The chief judge for upcoming artistes and live band categories, Thato Dikgetsi said they looked at music production, originality, arrangement of composition, technical skills and stage presentation. ENDS
