The Lucara Botswana Netballl league, sponsored by the stated company to the tune of P300 000 is coming to a close over the weekend.

Northern zone league committee public relations officer, Tshenolo Gareitsane said the region would play final fixtures in Palapye over the weekend despite challenges as shortage of funds.

Gareitsane said the second round of the league went according to plan because all the teams managed to honour their fixtures.

After concluding the league, the top four and top three teams on the women and men’s sides respectively from the Northern zone will qualify for Top 8 tournament, where they will battle it out with other team from Southern region, that will be held in Orapa to determine the league champions Gareitsane said.

The women’s second round log-standing of the Northern zone, TASC is leading the log with 17 points, followed closely by Maun Heroes and TAFIC with 16 and 15 points respectively while NICO United is placed fourth with 12 points.

On the men’s league, Northern zone second round of the league is led by TAFIC with 17 points, Maun Heroes  second with eight points, NICO United third with six points and Thunderbolts fourth with four points.

The final fixtures of the Northern zone will start with the women’s encounter between TASC and Boteti Giants, followed by the men’s between Uprising Stars and TAFIC.

Meanwhile, in the Southern zone games to be played at SSKB netball courts on Saturday, the opening match will be between UB Crystals and Jaspers men, followed by the women, Prisons and Vipers.

In the women’s league, the Southern zone log, Jwaneng on first position is equal on 20 points each with second placed Police. BDF Cats follows in third with 18 points and fourth place is occupied by Notwane with 12 points.

The men’s log in the southern zone is led by Police with 14 points, BDF Cats second with eight, Vipers third with seven and Prisons fourth with two points. Ends Amo 17/05/24
