Pat on the back for charity walk organisers

The Mohembo Bridge charity walk has been hailed as an initiative aimed at building a resilient and healthy community.

Speaking at the charity walk at Mohembo East on Saturday,  Okavango Member of Parliament Mr Kenny Kapinga commended organisers for coming up with an event that was primarily focused on benefiting the community.

He said the charity walk would go a long way in encouraging healthy lifestyles.

Organised by Phomolong Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Counselling Centre, the walk was divided in three categories of 10km, 15km and 25km respectively and the chief walker was former Zebras captain Mompati Thuma.

Kgosi Lekgowa Lekgowa of Shakawe said the centre must be commended for not only focusing on uplifting the lives of vulnerable children and under privileged members of the society but for equally encouraging a healthy living for all.

Kgosi Lekgowa said the walk was an act of love.

The chairperson of Phomolong OVC centre Kemo Begani said the non-profit making organisation was the brain child of one, Monde Lordick-Mokobi who has established it some years back while working in Shakawe.

Begani said the founder has over the years partnered with other NGOs aimed at assisting the needy in undertaking some community projects.

She said the NGO raises funds through different initiatives such as the charity walk, children pageantry and donations from different stakeholders.

Even though appreciating the participants for making the event a success, Lordick-Mokobi was concerned that only a limited number of Shakawe residents took part in the walk as the majority of the participants have travelled from afar places outside the Okavango. ENDS
