Botswana Motorsport is on the ground to draw routes for the annual iconic Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural festival slated for May 3-4.

Speaking in an interview, Botswana Motorsport public relations officer, Motlapele Majama said preparations were advanced at Khawa to draw routes for riders to prepare for the thrilling encounter.

He said the routes had been mapped and route marking would commence on Monday.

He called on all riders and drivers interested in participating to register by Wednesday next week through submitting their entry for the motor bikes, quad bikes and racing car challenges.

“We have divided the competition into two categories, being the Cheetah and Wildebeest categories where Cheetah will feature professional riders only while the wildebeest will cover those with bikes and riding for fun,” he said.

Majama said each category would further be divided into junior category, senior category as well as ladies category, adding that this year there would be a new addition of racing cars, which would include two categories of Sandmasters and Modified Cars. He pointed out that registration was currently ongoing adding that they had already received registrations from international riders in South Africa and some locals.

He highlighted that award categories and prize monies had been increased when compared to last year, as an incentive to encourage riders and drivers to participate in the races.

Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival, organised by Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Botswana Tourism Organisation, Botswana Motorsport, Khawa community and Tsabong District, is a family fun event which includes visual art exhibitions, cultural song and dance, horse race, motorbike stunts, as well as quad fun rides.
