University gifts Miss Botswana

The reigning Miss Botswana Anicia Gaothusi has received a scholarship from Gaborone University College of Law (GUC) to pursue a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply, awarded by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) from the UK.
Presenting the scholarship Thursday, together with P10 000 gift from GUC, the university director of Academics, Dr Upenyu Chiparo said the university was proud to be part of Miss Botswana’s journey to a brighter future.
The sponsorship is valued at P53 350 and covers tuition fees, professional body registration and examinations fees.
“We also congratulate our student, Anicia Gaothusi for attaining the title of Miss Botswana 2024,” he said.
Dr Chiparo said the institution’s efforts were in pursuit Vision 2036 pillar of Prosperity for All, noting that such was the reason GUC chose to partner with the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture in awarding scholarships to the youth in the sports and creative arts industry.
“Education is the key to socio-economic development and sustainable livelihoods,” he explained.
Dr Chiparo believes that their inclination for supporting the community had been deliberately tilted towards investment in human capital development, especially the youth, whom they believed to possess great potential.
He further noted that Gaothusi’s potential needed to be nurtured through skills development for the benefit of the entire society.
“We also believe an investment in an individual is an investment in the whole community,” he noted.
Botswana is one such country that values the nurturing of talents and development of skills in the youth, he noted, further saying, therefore people must augment their talents with a profession.
“You will be called here and there because of this title you are holding.
You need to create time for your studies, and you need to be committed,” he said, promising the reigning queen that the institution would support her until she completes her studies.
On behalf of Miss Botswana Organisation, former Mrs Botswana Ambrociah Samboko lauded GUC, saying the institution had given Ms Gaothusi a passport to the education she deserved. “Going forward we will also accord her satisfactory time to continue her studies.
The organisation is happy that she has found a body that has honoured her wishes,” she emphasised.
For her part, Gaothusi said continuing her studies had been among her priority wishes.
She also said she was grateful for the opportunity because schooling was important to her life’s journey. ENDS
