BNSC unveils awards nominees

Botswana National Sport Commission (BNCS) has announced nominees for this year’s national sport awards to be held at the Royal Aria Convention Centre in Tlokweng on May 18.
Nominees for the 43rd Botswana Sport Awards ceremony were announced on Thursday.
Athletes will be rewarded for their performance in the last season and notable among the nominees are sprint sensation, Letsile Tebogo for the Sportsman of the year alongside motorsport hero, Ross Branch and Karabo Motlhanka of cricket.
The Mares and Mamelodi Sundowns’ striker, Refilwe Tholakele has been nominated for the Sportwoman of the year alongside Lesego Masimola of karate and Oratile Nowe of athletics.In the junior sportswoman of the year category, Neo Nogampe of judo will slug it out with the duo of Sethunya Majama of athletics and Natalie Banda of chess.
Junior sportsman of the year have pitted Kao Nasala of karate against Collen Kebinatshipi of athletics and Denzel Seetso of tennis.
The duo of Edwin Masuge of athletics and Thuso Malasa of Special Olympics will compete for the Sportsman with disability award.
The battle for the team of the year prize will be between Lawn bowls women’s national team, karate men’s team for kata and men’s U20 4x400m relay team.
Kebonyemodisa Mosimanyane of athletics, Gasegarona Pabalelo of bowling and Keletso Tshukudu of Special Olympics, will compete for the Coach of the year award while the audience will wait to see who, between Rita Sebele of table tennis, Emmanuel Kgaboetsile of badminton and Dorothy Okatch of basketball will win the Empire/Referee of the year award.
Sport administrator of the year category will be won either by Ross Tebele of special athletics, Moses Bantsi of athletics or Kudzanani Motswaole of table tennis.
For non-citizen sport award, the battle will be between perennial rivals, Sensei William Ndoumbe of judo, Gladys Njoroge of taekwondo and Sumod Damodar of cricket.
Botswana Tennis Association (BTA), Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) and Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) have been nominated for the national sport association of the year award. ENDS
