The Metropolitan Chess Championship 2024 finals will be held over the weekend at the Cresta President Hotel in Gaborone.

The tournament is sponsored by Metropolitan Botswana to the tune of P152 800.

According to Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) public relations officer, Goitsemodiomo Makgatle the champion in the men’s category will pocket P11 000 while the women’s champion will get away with P9 000.

Second and third placed players in the men’s category will receive P8 000 and P6 000 while the women’s second and third position finishers will pocket P6 000 and P4 000 respectively.

Finalists in the men’s category are International Master (IM) Providence Oatlhotse, Keletshabile Monnaatsheko, Othata Selogelo, Gaasite Sebetlela, Kgosietsile Kitso, Moakofi Notha, Candidate Master (CM) Thuso Mosutha, Bokamoso Simon and Israel Phenyo.

Women finalists are Women Fide Master (WFM) Naledi Marape, Women Candidate Master (WCM) Natalie Banda, Otimile Maya, WCM Arona Moshoboro, Eesha Nalamalpu, Refilwe Gabatshwarwe, Boitshepo Rebatenne, WCM Atlang Mosweu, Boitumelo Radikoro and WCM Phoebe Moshoboro. ENDS
