Veteran football administrator, Bennett Mamelodi has been appointed Botswana Football League (BFL) chief executive officer on a five months acting basis. The appointment comes after the previous CEO, Senzo Mbatha's contract expired earlier this year. Announcing the appointment, BFL chairperson, Nicholas Zakhem said Mamelodi would hold the fort until the annual general meeting slated for August.
“Mamelodi is one of the shrewdest administrators locally and because he has been in the position before, we expect him to perform well as he is aware of the general duties of his position,” he said. On his previous poor working relation with Mamelodi, Zakhem said it was history and would not in any way affect their working relationship, adding that one should not allow perceptions to blind them from reality.
"We have differences with a lot of people everyday, and what is important is to learn from our mistakes and move forward,” he said. For his part, Mamelodi also said his previous experience in the office would make his return smooth. “It is not like I am starting from scratch because the office has staff members who have been keeping it running,” he said. Still at the briefing, a new board of directors was announced.
The board comprises of Busani Segweni of Nico United, Thapelo Otimile of Holy Ghost, Agisanyang Dingalo of Morupule Wanderers, Victor Kobe of Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Alec Monyake, who replaces Masego Ntshingane as Botswana Football Association representative. Zakhem is the chairperson while Jagdish Shah is an independent member and Mfolo Mfolo an ex-officio member. Ends
