Who will emerge victorious in Difofu di a gogana battle

21 Mar 2024

Time is ticking for Debswana First Division South side, Notwane, who find themselves on the brink of relegation to the lower leagues unless they miraculously turn their fortunes around.

It will be a battle for survival when Notwane, alias Toronto, meet an equally struggling side, Extension Gunners at the SSG Grounds on Saturday.

Things have not been going well for the once mighty Notwane who saw their coach, Thaloba Nthaga, resign after his side posted consecutive losses.

The team currently sits on position 11 with 14 points, only above rock bottom placed Desert Nxau who have 11 points. On the other side, the struggling Lobatse giants are only four points from the dreaded axe and a loss against Notwane could see them skating on thin ice.

Dubbed Difofu tse pedi di a gogana, the game is expected to be entertaining despite the two teams’ poor performance.

Gunners lost 0-2 to Tlokweng United in their previous games while Notwane fell by the same margin to Young Stars.

Their coach, Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare also resigned after airing his frustrations following his side’s continued humiliation.

The former Premier League giants enjoy a huge following and their relegation to the regional football league could spell a doom in local football.

It would be interesting to see who amongst the league’s struggling sides emerge victorious.

In other Saturday games, Jwaneng Young Stars, who sit comfortably at the apex of the league, are expected to continue with their good form and collect maximum points when they travel to Mmankgodi where they will face a team of mixed fortunes, Black Forest, alias Magoleng.

Tlokweng United hosts Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the Tlokweng VDC grounds while UB Hawks is home to Desert Nxau at Mogoditshane Fighters grounds.

On Sunday, City Polar, who tripped in their quest to challenge for the championship when they fell 2-0 to Mochudi Centre Chiefs, will want to revive their fortunes when they face Prisons XI at the SSG Grounds.

Mogoditshane Fighters, another side on the brink of relegation, hosts Union Flamengo Santos at their grounds.

All the games are scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm. ENDS
