athletes impress at judo competition

The Botswana Judo Re Ba Bona Ha held successful national competition at Sensei Itsubo Memorial Dojo in Gaborone on Saturday. 

The one-day competition, which is among the biggest events in the judo calendar, pitted 120 athletes from 46 categories. These included athletes aged seven to 54.  

The Botswana Judo Federation Development director, Edwin Sello expressed his delight towards the senior category athletes who managed to scoop gold medals. 

“This competition earns athletes better rankings on points accumulated and positions them better to stand a chance to make it into the national team,” he said. 

Sello said the eligibility to make it into the national team was subject to a number of criterions including partaking in competitions and attending gym classes. 

Sello thanked all those who supported them in preparations for the competitions, stating that their contribution to judo is sincerely appreciated and has helped them attain positive results.

In the boys’ category, Talente Peloyame scooped a gold medal under the 60kg category, whereas Trish Kgosiitsile also got a gold medal under the 66kg category. 

In the girls’ category, Helena Mutenda scooped a gold medal under the 52kg, whereas Lauryn Pulamoeng got a gold in +70kg category.  Ends
