First batch of athletes in Ghana

The first batch of Team Botswana left for Accra, Ghana on Tuesday, where they will represent the country at the 13th African Games.
The games starts Friday ending March 23.
The codes that left are karate, swimming, weightlifting, beach volleyball, while the remaining ones will depart on March 11 and 14 respectively.
Initially nine codes were expected to represent the country but chess and karate were later included to make it 11.
Athletes had romised to leave a mark at this edition.
Sweden-based swimmer, Maxine Egner, who will be making a debut at the games, said she was happy to represent the country and she promised a good performance once she plunged in that water.
“I have been training very hard therefore I am hoping to improve my Personal Best time and bring medal for my country,” she said.
Another swimmer Kyra Harry said she had been preparing well for the games, adding that the recently ended swimming championship that were held in Gaborone also helped her to gauge her readiness.
Harry, who will be also competing for the first time, said she did not know who she would compete against but there would be competitors from Namibia and Zimbabwe.
“I know a lot of swimmers from Namibia and Zimbabwe, so I know what to expect from them during the competition,” she said.
The solo weightlifter, Alphius Kagiso said he was ready and he had been pushing hard at training assisted in his preparations by a coach from South Africa.
“I think Batswana should expect nothing but the best from me at the games.
The intension is to represent the country with pride,” he said.
Beach volleyball male team made up of Jack Sekao and George Chiswaniso is also ready for the games.
The team said a podium finish for them would be a great achievement considering their hard work.
Beach volleyball female team comprising of Ngirl Wright and Jestina Moyo also like their male counterparts said they were going to Ghana on a mission to represent the country. Ends
