Ramotswa Councillors have acknowledged two athletes born in the village for sterling performance, which have resulted in their qualification for the African Games to be held in Accra in Ghana from March 8-23.

Ramotswa District Council chairperson, Zaahid Jalal said during the official opening of the council meeting on Monday that it was at the same competition that the two athletes; Edwin Molelekwa and Andrew Diseko stood a chance to qualify for other international athletics competitions such as the Paris Olympics scheduled for July.

“The athletes will need moral and financial support to fully participate in these competitions, so it is upon us to enrich and transform the lives of these young stars,” he added.

Also, he highlighted that the district had managed to host Constituency Sports Tournament (CST) on February 15-20, with two football teams qualifying for  sport-tourism exchange tournament in Kasane where 44 athletes would also participate.

“Both districts wish to encourage and nurture a positive sportsmanship in efforts to see sports as business and to grow their clubs into business cooperatives,” he said.

He also extended gratitude to Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture and Ramotswa MP, Lefoko Moagi, who had sponsored the two teams with sports gear and refreshments for their Kasane trip. ENDS
