Botswana Sports Volunteers Movement - Serowe Branch has elected a new executive committee at an annual general meeting in Serowe over the weekend.

Twenty-three eligible voters cast their vote during an elective congress that saw Solomon Dikgang winning the chairmanship with 14 votes while his competitor, Bokopano Kediretswe garnered eight votes and one abstained.

Vice chairperson’s position went to Taolo Orapeleng, who amassed 12 votes against 11 of Adorn Gaethusi.

Ambrosia Keamogetse who was unopposed is the treasurer while Kopano Pitse and Itumeleng Itumiseng were elected additional members with 18 votes each. Secretary general went to Albert Kenosi who was also unopposed.

Dikgang said the movement was formed in 2000 and launched April 2001, to compliment the efforts of Botswana National Sports Commission and aid the organisation to achieve its objectives through fostering the spirit of volunteerism in different sporting codes.

“The Movement encourages individuals and the community at large to participate in sport, and also seeks to recognise and appreciate the efforts of those involved and was rolled out to different parts of the country,” said Dikgang.

He said the movement had a strategic plan and policy, which was drawn to guide and facilitate its function.

The policy is a right tool to use on daily basis because it contains useful information on the operations of the movement, Dikgang said and implored members to familiarise themselves with the documents, to effectively and efficiently contribute to sport development.

He said it was mandatory for all sports associations to fully understand the role of human resource.

The chairperson said Serowe Region Sports Volunteers Movement successfully participated in high profile events as Lechana Bush Race 2022, Marshall Training by Botswana Motor Sport 2022, Region 5 games hosted by Malawi in which the then secretary general attended the event, promotional games of first division, Botswana National Sports Commission awards, Palapye Half Marathon 2022 and 2023, among others.

Appreciating the role voters conferred on the new elected committee, he said members pledged to give their all, to ensure sport in the country soared to greater heights. ENDS
