Security Systems ladies football team player, Masego Montsho is in a verge of making history as the first woman to play in Asia.

Montsho left for China on Tuesday to attend trials at Henan Football Club based in Zhengzhou.

She told BOPA before departure that she was happy to travel to China for the trials, and expressed hope that she would impress and land a contract.

Montsho, who is also The Mares defender, said she had been preparing for the trials, adding that the team made it clear that they needed a robust defender.

“I’m not going to China for a holiday, I am determined. I seriously want to be signed, and looking at the way I have been performing, I think I will make it,” she said

She pointed out that if she passed the trials, it would motivate to other women’s football players in Botswana.

“We haven’t been signing contracts in Europe or Asia, so should I pass the trials and play in China, it would help as other teams will start showing interest on our players,” she said.

Montsho pointed out that playing in a professional setup was every player’s dream, and also served to bolster the national team.

The experienced defender has previously played for Township Rollers, UB Kicks, BDF X1, before ending up at Systems.

Henan Football Club is a professional club based in Zhengzhou.

There are 22 teams in the Super League, and the team has played 22 games, won four, drew five, and lost 13, amassing 17 points

The team’s weakest link is the defence department, and that is where the search for Montsho comes in since she is good at dealing with all dangerous balls.

Some of the team’s biggest defeat last year was when they lost 7-0 against Jianghan University and 6-0 to Jiangsu Suning. ENDS
