Young karatekas leave mark at training clinic

Young karatekas from Yun Genius Academie in Francistown have been recognised for demonstrating outstanding skills in both the Kata Bonkai and Kumite basic free sparring disciplines at an exchange programme and training clinic on Saturday.

Kata Bonkai technique is a demonstration of the skills of the Shotokan karate style whilst Kumite is fighting techniques and to show their skills, they performed a variety of complex manoeuvres as testament to the hard work and dedication of the Club.

Sensei Kefilwe Ranngwe’s impressive moves earned him the Kata award trophy and a certificate for his flawless demonstration of the art form.

Another promising young star, eight-year-old, Jonathan Magotho from Semotswane primary school showed maturity and skill that was beyond his years.

The sounds of the techniques and the clash of his tiny body in the ring echoed through the arena, as the crowd cheered and gasped in unison.

In a post-event interview, Magotho expressed his desire to pursue karate at a higher level, with the hope of becoming an international star.

He spoke of his passion for the sport and his determination to continue training to improve his skills.

 One of the three female participant who also put on a remarkable performance, earning herself a certificate Angel Takobana skilfully outmatched her male counterpart.

Her graceful movements and precision were a joy to watch, and she proved herself to be a formidable opponent.

Event organiser, Sensei Otsile Motsamai, founder of Yun Genius Academie called for more funding to grow the sport.

He said karate required financial investment to cover purchasing equipment and sending athletes to compete in tournaments.

Sensei Motsamai, said the exchange programme paved way for the finals that would be held in Gaborone in March this year to select the national team that would represent the country at the Region 5 tournament in Maputo, Mozambique in May.

In her remarks, Francistown based Sports Desk Officer in from Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Chedu Bise praised participants for their dedication and determination, and encouraged them to continue to pursue their passion for the sport.  Ends
