Sankoyo Bush Bucks displayed a dominant performance, defeating visiting side Mbalakalungu 1-0 at Maun Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon, positioning themselves higher in the First Division North League standings.

Continuing their winning streak from the previous weekend's 2-1 victory over Santa Greens Football Club in Maun, Sankoyo now occupies the seventh position in the league standings.

From the beginning, both teams engaged in a captivating match, demonstrating spirited determination to secure essential points. Sankoyo took the lead in the 35th minute through Priest Tantabe, igniting a wave of celebration throughout the stadium.

Despite controlling the game, Sankoyo's attempts on goal were thwarted by the Mbalakalungu goalkeeper, who managed to save all shots directed at the net. The first half ended with Sankoyo in the lead.

The second half saw a shift in momentum as Mbalakalungu took command of ball possession but struggled to capitalize on their attacking moves, as Sankoyo's defense held strong, preventing any goals.

Mbalakalungu made multiple substitutions, but their efforts failed to yield results. The match witnessed rough tackles, prompting the referee's intervention on numerous occasions.

In the closing 15 minutes, Sankoyo intensified their performance, mounting pressure with numerous shots, all of which were impressively saved until the final whistle.

Following the game, Sankoyo's head coach, Papani Likha, attributed the victory to the team's strong preparation, including the acquisition of new quality players like Thato Tumagole and goalkeeper Onalethata Goodwin Moeletsi during the transfer window. Likha praised the team's performance throughout the game, emphasizing their adherence to the game plan.

Likha also expressed hope for securing a place in the premier league, highlighting their determination for the remaining fixtures.

Meanwhile, Mbalakalungu's head coach, Nchunga Libuku, acknowledged his team's efforts despite losing key players. He noted that despite a strong performance, it was not their day, regretting the missed opportunity to score and secure points according to their original plan.

Libuku emphasized the need to regroup, address their mistakes, and prepare for upcoming matches as they aim to rebound from the setback. ENDS
