Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) is hosting the fourth leg of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Beach Volleyball Series and the African Games qualifiers at Marabou Rocks in Gaborone.

The games, which starts today  will end on Sunday and will feature teams from Mozambique, Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa and eSwatini while Malawi had confirmed its non-attendance.

The federation’s president, Tsoseletso Magang said hosting the two events would boost local players and clubs as they would accumulate points and be eligible to compete at other upcoming beach volleyball tournaments regionally and internationally.

She said it was important to host such events as players were rated, both at club and national team level, on points accumulated from such tournaments.

She further said partaking in any beach volleyball tournament was based on the number of points that a team or a player had accumulated.

Also, she said hosting the beach series required resources, but that they would continue to host such events although lacking funds.

She appealed to the business community to support them through sponsorship, adding that they were always eager to host such events.

BVF vice president administration, Ndibo Lebala said teams from countries that had confirmed participation had arrived.

He said the documents of all the players would be inspected to ensure eligibility.

He said 19 men’s teams and 14 for women had confirmed their participation in the series.

For the African Game qualifiers, Lebala said each country would be represented by two clubs for men and women.
In the four-men team, Lebala said Botswana would be represented by George Chiswaniso, Sekao Boifang, Trevor Manduwa, Mosiiwa Baleofi, Tiroyaone Otimile, Elton Elias, Tony

Orapeleng and Phillip Machira.

The four-women team, he said, would be made up of Ngirl Wright, Wabongwa Boima, Jestinah Moyo, Tsebo Marape, Laone Gaotingwe, Ogopotse Keokilwe, Maungo Gaokaelwe and Onneetse Goitsemodimo. ENDS
