Prisons men edge Notwane out in thrilling encounter

21 Jan 2024

Prisons men won by 33 goals against Notwane’s 31 in a scintillating Lucara Botswana Netball League south zone game in Gaborone on January 20.

Notwane started well, hence ending the first quarter 14 to Prisons’ seven.

However, Prisons turned the tables during the second stanza with the quarter ending at 23 apiece for both sides.

Notwane coach, Thato Sekokonyane said they struggled with fitness as they had little time to prepare for the tournament.

He applauded Prisons men’s team for coming out tops in a tough game.

For his part, Prisons coach, Boikhutso Tuelo, said they started the game on a low note due to Notwane’s outstanding centre.

But, he said Notwane’s weakness was on defence, so Prisons capitalised on that.

In an interview, BONA south league committee spokesperson, Regent Pitso said Lucara had sponsored the league with a whooping P300 000.

Pitso said five of the eight teams in the league had male sides.

He said other than institutional teams, most players belonged to BOTESSA, which was on recess giving them an opportunity to play.

He also said four top teams from the south will play the four of the north in Orapa and Letlhakane.

In other games, BDF Cats lost 46 to Jwaneng Netball Club while Prisons women lost 33 to 52 of Vipers while UB Crystals received a 38 slap to 48 of Thamaga Jaspers. ENDS
