The organisers of Lotlhane East horse race are happy with the overall delivery of the event.

Speaking to BOPA, after the event on Saturday, the chairperson of the association, Mr Julius Dikgang said the event attracted competitors from all around the country as well as spectators.

He highlighted that the event was a source of income for different people such as jockeys, horse owners, trainers and different vendors.

The event, he said kept the youth away from different social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse as well as criminal activities.

“They spend most of the time here. If they were not here, the police could have already registered a lot of criminal cases,” he added.

He said horse race was growing in the country, hence his plea to potential sponsors and the government to support the sport, as it had the potential to contribute to the economy.

For her part, Kgosi Naledi Ramotswaiso of Lotlhakane East said she was happy to have such an event in her area, since the youth were kept away from social ills. She urged different stakeholders to support the event, which she said had the potential to positively change lives.

Kgosi Ramotswaiso advised the residents to celebrate the festive holidays responsibly and urged the drivers to avoid drinking and driving.

The event had different races such as Tswana 400, 800, 1 600 meters, Cross 800 and 1 200 meters, Thorough 800, 1 200 1 600, and grand race 2 400 meters.

Prize monies ranged from P600 to P5 000.

Under Thorough bred Silver Sky from Takatokwane scooped position one and walked away with P5 000, followed by Grooving news from Gamagangwa winning P4 000 and Sebarian fox finished on third position, winning P3 000. Ends
