Anti-doping education key

11 Dec 2023

The National Anti-Doping Coordinating Office (NADCO) is working with stakeholders to advocate for clean sport as part of its anti-doping programme.

Speaking at the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) annual general meeting on Saturday, BNOC president Botsanang Tshenyego said the coordinating office was busy throughout the year engaging stakeholders as education had been identified as critical to the success of the office and its work.

He said several education programmes for rugby, tennis and badminton were completed, adding that there was a need to raise awareness about both the office and the work that it performed.

He said in efforts to champion the sustainability agenda and the principles set out by both the IOC and the UN, the BNOC has established a sustainability committee tasked with infusing the mandate of the committee across the organisation.

He added that in alignment with the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and the overall direction of the Olympic movement, BNOC has made efforts to address the impact of climate change on daily lives.

Tshenyego also informed the meeting that the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has elected Chris Jenkins as the new president. He said the Welsh rower had a wealth of administrative experience and ties to the Commonwealth movement. He was an athlete as well as the CEO of Commonwealth Games Wales for 16 years.

The president also noted that the CGF had two Africans on the board, one from Botswana and the other from Uganda. Ends
